rabbit rabbit, welcome to march. it’s really amazing how quickly the first few months of the year fly by. i hope you are grateful for the longer days. i hope you are grateful for the fact that spring is closer than ever. i hope you are able to get outside for some fresh air while the sun is still out. i hope you are well.

for astrological context, we are in pisces season. we are also experiencing a mercury retrograde for most of the month. i like mercury retrogrades. mainly because i don’t subscribe to pop astrology. also because a retrograde is an invitation for a re-assessment, based on the sign and what house it hits in your birth chart. when a planet is in retrograde motion, it appears to be moving backwards. but really, it’s an optical illusion. mercury is the planet of tricksters, communication, travel (typically short distance). mercury is also abt our intellect and ability to rationally and authentically express ourselves (related to the suit of swords, in tarot). when mercury is retrograde, it feels unstable. but mercury isn’t about feelings, mercury is abt facts. take this month of mercury retrograde as an opportunity to actually use the factual feedback given to you by your environment.

i’ll give an example. this pisces mercury retrograde is affecting my third house. the third house is associated with mercury/gemini and rules over our communication, neighborhood, peers, cars, writing, etc. remember, travel and expression. february was a slow mental month for me. my brain felt like mush. i couldn’t write, no matter how hard i tried. my car needed maintenance and i kept telling myself i was going to do it and couldn’t do it. i was a bit of a hermit, too, isolating myself from friends, etc. my schedule was out of wack, i felt like a balloon floating from location to location. not great for a creative Type B+ person who needs routine and consistency.

but here we are on march 1st, and i’m writing. i got my car maintained over the weekend and had a great coupon for it (i love a deal). i hung out with ppl i love for the first time in a while. i got a new job and have a more consistent work schedule, which is good for my brain and creative habits. All Third House Things. i’m using this march and this retrograde as an opportunity to get my groove back (word to Stella). you can, too. as we barrel headfirst into spring, aries season, longer days and shorter nights, let this retrograde serve as a reset instead of a cause of panic.

aries: king of pentacles & the sun

the king of pentacles is back and just in time for your season to begin. saturn is also in aries now and will continue to be interacting with your sign for the next 2ish years. saturn is abt maturity, often through hard lessons. saturn is abt getting what you want, even when it doesn’t look the way you want it to. saturn is abt the long game. enter, the king of pentacles. remember, pentacles are also abt the long game. recognizing the value of the journey instead of only focusing on the end goal. in the Magic Pantry Tarot deck, the king of pents is symbolized by a cake. the king has created a life in which they can have their cake and eats it too. they also know the cake tastes sweeter when shared with others. with the king of pentacles reappearing for you, it’s an opportunity to reassess your values and if they make sense in the long term. it can be difficult for aries placements to picture the long term, because they live in the present. but again, with saturn’s presence in your sign right now, the task is to figure out how to make your light shine longer, not necessarily brighter.

with the sun as your supporting energy for march, this task is especially relevant. the sun, in tarot, is abt an abundant, joy-driven life. it is abt protecting what you already have so you can go after the things you really want. it is abt trusting in yourself, your body, and your foundations to see this mission through to the end. in the Twice Told Tarot deck, the sun is portrayed as a paternal figure in contrast to the young child seen in the original art. this change in art is important because it reflects the eternal (old) age of our literal sun. our sun that has mastered the art of shining longer, not always brighter. our sun that is able to regenerate its source of heat and warm the solar system for billions of years. this is your superpower, aries. in astrology, the sun is ruled by mars, but exalted (aka really loves) by the sun. this doesn’t necessarily mean doing The Most All The Time, but instead finding gratitude and value in the resources you already have. the body you have, the joy you have, the growth you’ve undergone, the growth you will continue to undergo.

taurus: the emperor & the ace of wands

last month, your supporting energy was the emperor. now it is the main energy. remember what i said abt retrogrades being an opportunity for re-assessment? well, february was a sneak peek of what march is presenting to you. when the fool goes on their journey and they reach the emperor stage, it is when the fool realizes that hard work, discipline, patience and personal power comes from within. the fool realizes that they won’t get to the rest of their journey without locking in. march is asking you to lock tf in. in the Twice Told Tarot deck, the emperor is depicted as a skeleton on their throne. this is the hill they chose to die on. in the same breath, the emperor recognizes this: you can say whatever you want abt them, but at least they have kept their power and control until the very end. this requires boundaries, notice the emperor is completely covered in robes and armor. this requires grounding, note the emperor doesn’t stand to greet us, they remain seated, engaging the root chakra. this also requires wisdom and insight, represented by the emperor’s wise-looking beard and mystical orb in his left hand. this requires tenacity, note the rugged terrain that the emperor has planted himself in. taurus, are you ready to put in the work to get the life you want?

with the ace of wands as your supporting energy, fire is a dominant element in your reading. as an earth sun and/or rising, this is not how you operate. but fire isn’t always abt doing, it’s usually abt feeling. feeling like you are in control of your destiny, feeling like you have agency and autonomy, feeling like you can choose the hills you die on. the ace of wands is just the start. don’t feel like you have to tackle all your plans right now, but at the very least… make a plan. make a plan that is meaningful to your goals and passions. one that sparks joy like a flame becoming a bonfire. one that takes courage, determination, and trust in yourself and your abilities. the ace of wands asks you to find inspiration everywhere, especially in the most unlikely places.

in shuffling, gemini, the 2 of pentacles popped up. your reading from last month. i talked abt the gemini talent of managing a lot at a time, the correlation with jupiter in capricorn, finding joy the ups and downs of life. temperance is here to elevate this balancing act from day-to-day matters to your overall Philosophy. when the fool reaches temperance, especially since death is the previous card, the fool understands that life really does hang in the balance between light and dark. between solid ground and unknown waters (note the angel’s feet). the fool also learns here that balance provides forward movement; just as much as forward movement requires balance. while it is admirable to juggle a lot at once, i have to ask: are you swimming in your responsibilities or are you drowning? i also have to ask: what would happen if you put some things down? simplified your duties, philosophies; what if you practiced a bit of moderation?

with the knight of pentacles as your supporting energy, it’s a reminder that this … streamlining of your life, so to speak, is one that requires you to keep your values that the forefront of your mind. what do you really care abt? what can you put down? notice the knight of pentacles isn’t carrying a lot, just what is necessary. the knight is willing to sit for a bit while they figure out what to do with their land. the possibilities are endless. but the knight is more interested in calculated investments than planting seeds all over. in the Magic Pantry Tarot deck, the knight of pents is represented by noodles. a food that doesn’t take a lot of ingredients to make, but does take a lot of time and patience to get right. gemini, you operate best when your systems are streamlined. when your mental highways are clear for you to run wild. so clean up the road a bit. ask for support in taking things off your plate. focus on the details of your life and the big picture will naturally settle into place.

cancer: queen of wands and 3 of pentacles

with the 3 of pentacles as your supporting energy, the invitation to teach this art of a Life Well-Lived with others is emphasized. the three of pents is abt co-working, team work, seeing the value in making sure everyone can learn and succeed. this is shown in the Twice Told Tarot deck, with the third hand just abt to reach for the pentacle. the other two hands are waiting for them, because if one of us makes it, we all must make it. with the 3 of pents abt learning, this month is an opportunity to learn how to care for others through experiencing care from them. cancers are good at taking care of others, but being cared for is another story. how much can you really learn abt nurturing if you yourself are not nurtured? it does take a village, cancers, and you are a part of that village. by allowing for more collaboration in terms of your care, you will find you have more energy for your passions. you will have more joy behind your movements. you will be able to connect and relate to the other members of your Care Team in a deeper and more valuable way.

leo: ace of swords and 10 of wands

last month, you had the 2 of pentacles. the 2 of pents asked if your life felt like a juggling act you could manage or a show you were putting on for other people. the ace of swords invites you to cut through the clouds of uncertainty and embrace the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may feel. in tarot, the suit of swords represents clarity, hard truths, and integrity. a lot of the swords cards are hard to swallow because they provoke tough emotions such as anxiety, shame, or being antagonized. but leo, sometimes you will be the villain in a storyline that has nothing to do with you and that’s okay. leo is ruled by the sun and is associated with our ego and pride. leo, your ego and pride may want you to explain yourself. to continue to juggle values and investments that you aren’t invested in. because it feels bad to have people think negatively abt you. i get it. but i invite you to look to your sister sign, aquarius, and care less abt what others think of you. break out of the predetermined story that others are writing for you and write your own. swords are associated with the air signs: gemini, libra, aquarius. communication, self-expression, using your intellect to your advantage.

we’re currently in pisces season, which is your opposite season. while virgo is structured and process-based, pisces is more willing to go with the flow. this energy, combined with mercury retrograde (virgo is ruled by mercury, remember) is not comfortable for virgo placements. however, with swords all over your reading, this reading is a reminder that you have (probably) been through worse and you’ve lived to tell the tale. so get the swords of out your back and keep it pushing. swords can represent truths we haven’t said, responsibilities we haven’t managed, habits that are holding us back. when we get to a 10 of swords moment, when we feel swallowed up by our environment and our brains, it can feel very dramatic and dark. it may even make us cry, word to the Magic Pantry Tarot using the onion as its representation. chopping onions, getting to the truth, whatever, feels worse than it actually is. but it’s not the end of the world. look at this card, it’s full of intense imagery. but when we approach this card rationally, we see the swords aren’t life-threatening. the red we see isn’t blood, but rather, the figure’s clothing. we suddenly see the blue water and yellow skyline, indicating a new day approaching. we notice the figure’s hand raised toward the heavens, indicating a connection to a higher truth and purpose. let this mercury retrograde bring you back to center, virgo.

the queen of swords as your supporting energy serves as an additional reminder to see past the nonsense and seek the truth of your situation. in the Twice Told Tarot deck, the queen of swords is shown facing us directly, but she still uses the sword to protect her vision – literally and philosophically. remember that you are bigger than the current discomfort. recognize the thought patterns when they begin to feel bigger than your current capacity and stop them in their tracks. as represented by the butterflies on their crown and the cherub on the throne, the queen of swords maintains a curious, transformative approach to the unknown. the caterpillar surrenders to the universe and becomes something bigger and beautiful than it was at the start. how can you break out of your current patterns and become a glorious butterfly? how can you maintain your queendom, your authority and agency, in the midst of conflict or anxiety?

libra: page of swords & king of cups

last month, the 5 of swords said, “it’s okay to walk away from incompatible situations”. this month, the page of swords represents the solitude necessary to get a better perspective on your life. the swords suit is associated with air signs, libra being one of them. pop astrology won’t tell you this, but libra is associated with contracts, judgement, and healthy boundaries. being able to maintain your individuality while in relation to others. the page of swords is the youngest member of the swords suit, asking you to maintain a curious, childlike approach to your new perspective. you may have never operated from this perspective before. you may swing your sword around too much or too little, but give yourself some grace; it’s your first time. don’t let this newfound freedom of sorts go to your head, though. the red boots on the page represent a groundedness in your passion, energy, freedom. you’re using this freedom for liberation of your mind, not control or manipulation of others.

the king of cups as your supporting energy is a nice balance between the head and the heart here. the Twice Told Tarot deck also shows this dichotomy. the page of swords stands with question marks around them and the king of cups literally balances a brain and a heart. the king of cups is also contrasts the page in age, as the king is the most mature the suit can be. so while you may be approaching intellectual or environmental matters with new technique, your emotional and spiritual intelligence is fine tuned for your situation. the king of cups isn’t swayed by emotions, isn’t rocked off balance by the waves, but embraces them and rides them out. they are able to manage the ups and downs with warmth, empathy, and logical emotional responses. so while your page of swords may be saying tough things, potentially hurting feelings, etc. don’t get so caught up in what you see and lose sight of how you and others may feel. finding the balance between not taking things personally vs. not taking things at all. give your environment time to adjust to you, and give yourself time to adjust to your new environment.

so you got what you wanted, scorpio. you had your sun month, full of new opportunities and warmth. but this 2 of wands seems to be unfulfilled. it asks, What else is out there? the 2 of wands is a card of planning for the future, widening your perspective, expanding your boundaries. of feeling ready to leave the nest, knowing the world is your oyster. with this being a 2 card, it can represent collaboration with someone to make this happen. someone you trust to carry a torch alongside you and help you fulfill your vision (represented by a figure climbing a ladder toward an All Seeing Eye in the Twice Told Tarot deck). who will support you in making decisions that are truly in line with your end goal. isn’t it refreshing to have someone you can trust, scorpio? and even if this attempt doesn’t come to fruition, don’t be afraid to try again. the 3 of wands, another card of planning and anticipation, comes next. just like the mint plant (the Magic Pantry Tarot’s representation of 2 of wands), you are difficult to cut down. you’ll be back and taking over another garden in no time.

the 9 of pentacles is a really lovely chapter in the pentacles story. pentacles are related to the earth element, slow and steady. tedious and hard-working. most of the pentacles cards show patience, boundaries, work and industry. but when we get to the 9 of pentacles, the scene glows bright. the figure isn’t working. they’re enjoying the fruits of their labor, their time in the sun. the 9 of pentacles is a card of taking some well-needed time for yourself. if we must say it, well-earned. when was the last time you made a self-centered investment? when was the last time you really looked around at all the work you’ve put into making this life one to be proud of? when was the last time you stopped to smell the roses?

i really appreciate temperance showing up here to (literally) balance things out. i know when sagittarius placements hear “treat yourself” they definitely will, because that’s what jupiter does. but temperance here serves as a reminder that this Treat Yourself moment is just a stop on the journey. your purchases should still be intentional, meaningful, a real investment. not just spending or investing for the sake of it. in the Twice Told Tarot deck, temperance is represented by a figure floating in a large wine glass. it poses two options: you can swim or you can drown. temperance asks you to find your ability to swim in the midst of your options for investments. dream big and practically. nurture your wants and your needs. make choices that won’t distract from your pentacles journey, but instead, add to it.

with the 3 of swords as your supporting energy, you’ll find that making these new decisions will help you overcome the self-doubt and shame that comes with realizing Just How Human You Are. the 3 of swords is not the loveliest card to look at, as it can represent heartbreak. but after heartbreak always comes healing. rain can nourish the earth, even if it takes a little storm to get there first. remember that the page of pentacles’ journey is slow moving. this is in contrast to air (swords, aquarius, etc.), which is fast-moving. i acknowledge that patience with the process can feel a bit heart-wrenching at times. it can be embarrassing to feel like a beginner again. but you will learn so much abt what yourself, your emotional capacity, your actual values. your heart is growing around the swords, your heart is weathering the storm, and your connection to the tangible world is deepening.

pisces: 3 of pentacles & 10 of cups

happy pisces season, pisces placements. last month, you had the 7 of pentacles. a card that requires patience and also finding other ways to fill your time while you wait. with the 3 of pentacles present, march is a month to practice collaboration while you wait for your big dreams to come to fruition. in practicing teamwork, you’ll find other individuals who could support you on your journey. the 3 of pentacles also provides an opportunity for you to fine tune your relationship skills, so you’re able to maintain your boundaries and individuality in the midst of working with other people. pisces folks are a bit like social chameleons, going with what the greater voice is saying – for better or worse. but embracing the wisdom of the 3 of pentacles will support a more practical and measured approach to your dreams. you don’t have to lose yourself in the crowd in order to get what you want. notice in the 3 of pents card how differently dressed each individual is, representing their unique skillset/perspective/experiences. the best scenario is where every voice can be heard and honored, pisces.

this is further emphasized with the 10 of cups being your supporting energy. the 10 of cups is the wish fulfillment card. dreams come true, happily ever after, etc. it’s the really lovely feeling of getting everything you want and more. but that comes when you’ve worked on the nitty gritty relational and environmental matters that the 3 of pentacles represents. because cups are watery, it can indicate enmeshment or lack of boundaries, over inflating a good idea because you really believe in it. but the 3 of pentacles serves as a reminder that the best ideas have a grounded basis in reality. dream big, pisces, and then collaborate with others to make those dreams tangible.
